TokyoPick is personal, but the process is written down: no surprise purchases, no hidden fee jumps, and no requests that create legal, customs, inventory, or shipping problems.
No purchase before approval
The $5 paid review is not a purchase deposit and does not guarantee the item can be purchased. I do not buy the item until you approve the item cost, service fee, shipping, and conditions in a separate quote.
Buyer-friendly payment
PayPal Goods & Services is available when possible for purchase orders. Item cost, service fee, and shipping estimates are separated in the quote.
Photos and written notes
I send photos when stores allow photography. If photos are not allowed, you still receive written condition notes.

If a Store Check cannot happen
If a paid Store Check cannot be completed because the store is unexpectedly closed or unavailable, I will offer a reschedule or refund the Store Check fee.

"Nearby" means the same building, same shopping area, or easy walking distance. "Additional district" means train travel to another area — for example Nakano → Akihabara, Nakano → Ikebukuro, or Akihabara → Ikebukuro.

Tokyo Request Review, Store Check, and Purchase & Ship are separate because they cover different work: first review, travel and in-store inspection, then buying, packing, and shipping. TokyoPick works best for higher-value, condition-sensitive, store-only, or hard-to-replace collector items. For cheap, common, or already-listed items, a standard proxy-buying service may be better.

No. Many Tokyo stores allow photography and I take 5–10 photos whenever permitted, but some stores prohibit it. If photos are not possible, you still receive the full written report: availability, confirmed price, and detailed condition notes from my in-person inspection. The fee is the same, because the work — traveling there and inspecting the item — is the same.
Yes — that is the normal flow. But please understand what the report is: a snapshot of that store at that moment. It is not a reservation, and stock and price are not guaranteed until purchase. If you take days to decide, the item may be gone or repriced.
No. I complete the check, leave, and send your report. Waiting in-store is not practical across time zones. If you want me to act instantly, see the next question about pre-approved conditions.
Sometimes, if the item is legal to handle, still available, shippable to your country, and your conditions are clear. Example: "Buy it if the box is undamaged and the price is ¥28,000 or less." You pay the item cost and fees upfront via a buyer-protected method; if the item does not meet your conditions, I do not buy it and the item cost is refunded.
No. Japanese stores generally do not hold items, and I have no way to reserve stock. The report tells you what was true when I was standing there.
The Store Check fee still applies — it paid for the visit and the report, which were completed. If you would like, I can suggest alternatives, check other stores, or watch for restocks as a new paid review.
You get everything except photos: availability, the exact price, and honest written condition notes. When I know in advance that a store prohibits photos, I will tell you before you order the check so you can decide.
Because they are separate work. The Store Check pays for travel, in-store inspection, and the report — even if you decide not to buy. I can ship to many countries, but not every item can be shipped to every destination. Shipping depends on the destination country, item type, carrier restrictions, customs rules, and current service availability. I confirm available shipping options before you pay. Import duties, customs fees, VAT, GST, and local taxes are the buyer's responsibility and vary by country. I do not undervalue customs declarations.
