Start with a Paid Tokyo Request Review.

Already found a Japan-only item that will not ship overseas? Start with the $5 paid review. I check whether the request looks realistic, whether shipping appears possible, and what the next cost estimate may include. The $5 fee covers initial review and light research only; item cost, shipping, store visit fees, proxy purchase fees, and additional handling costs are separate. Payment does not guarantee the item can be purchased.

I review the specific item link, store page, or store name and reply with the availability outlook, purchase options, shipping realism, and next-step quote items. The review fee is not a purchase deposit and does not guarantee the item can be bought.

Who runs TokyoPick

Past Requests & Experience

TokyoPick is run by Shota Hanada in Tokyo. Past work includes item research in Japan, local purchase support, requested confirmation photos, and Japanese–English communication support. Client names and private order details are not published.

Early manga magazine request

Helped an overseas client source an early Weekly Shonen Jump issue in Tokyo and sent requested page photos for confirmation.

Local Tokyo item research

Checked local availability in Japan, store fit, likely price range, and whether a request was realistic before paid work.

Confirmation before purchase

Used photos and written notes to help overseas buyers decide whether the actual item matched their expectations.

Japanese–English support

Supported communication between an overseas business client and contacts in Japan without publishing private details.

Paid request reviews are handled first. If store visits, purchasing, shipping, proxy purchase work, or additional handling are needed, I send a separate quote before any purchase or extra paid work.

Why TokyoPick

Why not just use a proxy service?

Large proxy-buying sites are automated and often better for cheap, common, or already-listed items. TokyoPick is for buyers who already found a specific Japan item and want a real person in Japan to check purchase options, local-store possibilities, condition risks, and shipping realism before spending serious money.

Real person in Japan

A person checks the request first

I review the specific item page, store page, or store name and tell you whether the request looks realistic before any purchase is attempted.

Online & local options

Some options never appear on proxy sites

I can review online listings and, when appropriate, local Tokyo store possibilities such as Nakano Broadway, Akihabara, and Ikebukuro.

Photos when allowed

Photos and notes from the store

You get photos when stores allow them, plus written condition notes either way. A Store Check is a report, not a reservation.

Honest fit

Best for specific, higher-value requests

For cheap, common, or already-listed items, a standard proxy-buying service may be a better fit. I will say so honestly in the paid request review.

How it works

Four steps, no surprises

The $5 Tokyo Request Review is only the first review and light research. Item cost, domestic or international shipping, store visit fees, proxy purchase fees, and additional handling costs are quoted separately after review.

Tokyo store search

In-person searches, not just online browsing

When a request needs certainty, I can visit Tokyo collector areas such as Nakano Broadway when it fits the request, check real shelves and prices, and send condition notes with photos when the store allows photography.

01

Pay for the review

Use Stripe Checkout when you already have a product URL, store page, or store name. The $5 fee covers initial review and light research only.

02

Submit the paid form

After payment, submit the paid request form with the same email address used for Stripe payment, plus the item link, budget, country, and details.

03

Review purchase options

I check whether the request appears purchasable, whether shipping looks realistic, and whether an online purchase, local-store option, or separate Store Check makes sense.

04

Approve the next quote

If you go ahead, item cost, domestic or international shipping, Store Check fees, proxy purchase fees, and additional handling are quoted separately before purchase. I do not buy until you approve the total.

What my reply looks like

A clear reply before any purchase

This is a fictional example, not a real customer message. It shows the kind of information you can expect after starting a paid request review.

Fictional reply sample
Item requestedLimited figure from a Tokyo collector shop, unopened box preferred.
Availability outlookPossible, but likely store-only. I recommend a Store Check before purchase.
Estimated item priceUsually around ¥28,000–¥35,000 if available in good condition.
Store Check fee¥3,000 for the first store. Nearby extra stores can be added only if you approve.
Shipping noteAvailable shipping options depend on the destination, item type, carrier rules, and box size. I confirm the options before you pay.
Next stepReply with your maximum item price and condition requirements. I will confirm any Store Check, purchase, service fee, and shipping quote before extra paid work or purchase.

How I protect buyers

Clear limits before money changes hands

TokyoPick is personal, but the process is written down: no surprise purchases, no hidden fee jumps, and no requests that create legal, customs, inventory, or shipping problems.

No purchase before approval

The $5 paid review is not a purchase deposit and does not guarantee the item can be purchased. I do not buy the item until you approve the item cost, service fee, shipping, and conditions in a separate quote.

Buyer-friendly payment

PayPal Goods & Services is available when possible for purchase orders. Item cost, service fee, and shipping estimates are separated in the quote.

Photos and written notes

I send photos when stores allow photography. If photos are not allowed, you still receive written condition notes.

Legal and honest handling

No counterfeit, bootleg, illegal, or prohibited goods. Customs declarations are not undervalued.

If a Store Check cannot happen

If a paid Store Check cannot be completed because the store is unexpectedly closed or unavailable, I will offer a reschedule or refund the Store Check fee.

Pricing

Start with a paid request review

The $5 Tokyo Request Review is an initial review and light research only. You always see the next full quote before purchase, Store Check work, proxy purchase work, additional handling, or shipping is paid. Payment does not guarantee that the item can be purchased.

Step 1 - paid review

Tokyo Request Review

$5

Covers initial review and light research on whether the item appears purchasable from Japan and whether shipping looks realistic. It does not include item cost, domestic or international shipping, store visit fees, proxy purchase fees, additional handling costs, reservation, or purchase.

In-store report

Store Check

From ¥3,000

I visit the store in person. Includes availability check, price confirmation, real item inspection, condition notes, and photos when photography is allowed by the store. Store Checks are usually completed within 1–3 business days after payment, depending on store hours, distance, and my schedule. I confirm the expected visit date before you pay.

First store: ¥3,000 · Nearby extra store: +¥1,000 each · Additional district requiring train travel: +¥3,000

"Nearby" means the same building, same shopping area, or easy walking distance. "Additional district" means train travel to another area — for example Nakano → Akihabara, Nakano → Ikebukuro, or Akihabara → Ikebukuro.

Buying & shipping

Purchase & Ship

15% of item price
min. ¥5,000

Covers purchase handling, payment coordination, careful packing, shipping coordination, photo updates, and customer support after you approve the quote. Actual international shipping cost is separate and shown in your quote. Payment via PayPal Goods & Services when possible.

Example: if an item costs ¥30,000, the Purchase & Ship service fee is ¥5,000 minimum. The $5 paid review does not pay for the item and does not guarantee the item can be bought. Shipping, payment fees, proxy purchase fees, additional handling costs, and any approved Store Check fees are quoted separately after the item, box size, destination, and carrier options are confirmed. For international orders, the final total can change depending on shipping method, box size, destination, and carrier availability.

Tokyo Request Review, Store Check, and Purchase & Ship are separate because they cover different work: first review, travel and in-store inspection, then buying, packing, and shipping. TokyoPick works best for higher-value, condition-sensitive, store-only, or hard-to-replace collector items. For cheap, common, or already-listed items, a standard proxy-buying service may be better.

FAQ

Common questions before starting

The $5 Tokyo Request Review covers initial review and light research on whether the item appears purchasable from Japan and whether shipping looks realistic. It does not include item cost, domestic or international shipping, store visit fees, proxy purchase fees, additional handling costs, reservation, or purchase. Payment does not guarantee that the item can be purchased.
A Store Check is a paid in-store report. I visit the store in person and send you: availability, the confirmed in-store price, written condition notes from inspecting the actual item, and 5–10 photos when photography is allowed by the store. It starts at ¥3,000 for the first store. Store Checks are usually completed within 1–3 business days after payment, depending on store hours, distance, and my schedule. I confirm the expected visit date before you pay. A Store Check is a report, not a reservation.
No. Many Tokyo stores allow photography and I take 5–10 photos whenever permitted, but some stores prohibit it. If photos are not possible, you still receive the full written report: availability, confirmed price, and detailed condition notes from my in-person inspection. The fee is the same, because the work — traveling there and inspecting the item — is the same.
Yes — that is the normal flow. But please understand what the report is: a snapshot of that store at that moment. It is not a reservation, and stock and price are not guaranteed until purchase. If you take days to decide, the item may be gone or repriced.
No. I complete the check, leave, and send your report. Waiting in-store is not practical across time zones. If you want me to act instantly, see the next question about pre-approved conditions.
Sometimes, if the item is legal to handle, still available, shippable to your country, and your conditions are clear. Example: "Buy it if the box is undamaged and the price is ¥28,000 or less." You pay the item cost and fees upfront via a buyer-protected method; if the item does not meet your conditions, I do not buy it and the item cost is refunded.
No. Japanese stores generally do not hold items, and I have no way to reserve stock. The report tells you what was true when I was standing there.
The Store Check fee still applies — it paid for the visit and the report, which were completed. If you would like, I can suggest alternatives, check other stores, or watch for restocks as a new paid review.
You get everything except photos: availability, the exact price, and honest written condition notes. When I know in advance that a store prohibits photos, I will tell you before you order the check so you can decide.
Because they are separate work. The Store Check pays for travel, in-store inspection, and the report — even if you decide not to buy. Purchase & Ship pays for buying, payment coordination, careful packing, shipping coordination, and support until the item reaches you. Keeping them separate means you only pay for the work you actually order.
The $5 request review starts through Stripe Checkout. For purchase orders after review, PayPal Goods & Services is available whenever possible, so PayPal's buyer protection may apply under PayPal's terms. Item cost, service fee, and estimated shipping are paid before I buy the item.
I can ship to many countries, but not every item can be shipped to every destination. Shipping depends on the destination country, item type, carrier restrictions, customs rules, and current service availability. I confirm available shipping options before you pay. Import duties, customs fees, VAT, GST, and local taxes are the buyer's responsibility and vary by country. I do not undervalue customs declarations.
Usually not, and I will not pretend otherwise. Automated proxy-buying services are usually better for cheap, common, or already-listed items. TokyoPick costs more because a real person travels to the store, inspects the item, and reports honestly before you commit serious money. It works best for requests where condition, local availability, store-only stock, timing, or human judgment matters.
Yes. TokyoPick does not knowingly buy counterfeit items, bootlegs, unofficial goods sold as official, illegal goods, or prohibited items. Specific characters or prizes from blind boxes, gacha, and lottery items cannot be guaranteed.
